Details Updated 30th August

At least 7 members of the London Danish and London Scandinavian Languages Meetup Groups are coming to Århus this week for the festival. They are me (Shelley), my partner Mike, my mum (Bernie), a Finnish girl called Derya Ford, a Danish girl from Århus called Marlene, who has been living in the UK and returned home recently to study - plus our good friends, Alan, who is English and his wife, Annalise, who is half Danish.

It is the 3rd time we have held an International Meetup in Århus during the festival. In 2004, 5 people attended. In 2005, there were 9 of us. This year Mike and I have really tried hard to promote it and we are expecting between 20 and 30 people to turn up.

The Meetup will take place on the evening of Saturday 1st September, starting at 7.00pm and it is going to be a joint Meetup with members from Kolding, Århus and London. However, Mike and I are also a member of another organisation with members in Denmark which is called

http://www.couchsurfi...

and I have set up joint meeting with them. The Couch Surfers are VERY enthusiastic - It seems likely that about 20 of them will show up. Check out their website beforehand so you know what Couch Surfing is all about.

If you have not been to Århus during festival week (aka Festugen), it is certainly well worth going. There is always a lot to do even if the weather is poor and it is nearly all free. The bars and restaurants lower their prices too. Beer is almost cheap - by Danish standards !!!

We are going to meet in the Reception area of the Cab Inn Hotel - It is more or less in Stor Torv. It is the white building with the blue flags just to the right of the Århus Theatre. In festival week, Stor Torv is also where you will find the main festival stage. There is a map of the area on Cab Inn's website. There is also a short video both on the Cab Inn website and also in the files section of this Meetup site It clearly shows where the hotel entrance is and what it looks like - You cannot fail to find it !Just push open the big wooden door (Number 14) and walk straight in. There is no need to push the intercom and announce yourself.

The bar will be to your right when you come in to the hotel and we will be sitting on the left. It is never crowded in there but to make it really easy to find us, I will put LARGE wooden Danish flags on our table.

We will be in that bar from 7.00pm until at least 7.30pm and then go off for a drink or perhaps a cheap meal somewhere else.

Although the official address for the Cab Inn Hotel is

CAB INN Aarhus
Kannikegade 14
DK-8000 Aarhus C
Tlf: (+45) 86 75 70 00

From the station, just cross the road and follow the main pedestrian / shopping street as far as it goes. It's about a 10 minute walk from the station. Bring your umbrella - It is bound to be raining.

As there are such a lot of us many of us, when we leave the Cab Inn Hotel, we will look for an empty beer tent somewhere close by and use that. We have no idea which one this will be in advance. So the best thing you can do is make sure you are not late - Get there between 19.00 and 19.30 latest.

If you are late then you can still find us calling or texting either Mike, the Assistant Organiser on his English mobile 00 44 7967 044282. It would be far better and cheaper for you to call Paul, who lives in Århus and knows ther town very well. His Danish mobile. number is 0045 27493760. Please write those numbers down or punch them into your mobile NOW so you don't forget.

Here are a few sites for you

Århus Festival Website - http://www.aarhusfest...

The main tourist info site, which has stuff about parking and busses etc

I really hope lots of members of the Kolding Group will make it. I was sorry to see that Matthew stepped down as organiser. I have volunteered to take over for the time being but am more than happy for somebody else to take over from me after this Meetup.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Regards

Shelley
